Wedding Service

Glenspean Lodge is one of the very few venues in the Highlands of Scotland approved by the District Registrar.

You can, if you wish, hold the actual service at Glenspean Lodge. You have two choices, either for a religious service conducted by a Minister (Clergyman, Priest, Pastor) or any such person entitled to do so under the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977. Or, a Civil Marriage Ceremony, which is a non-religious ceremony, conducted by the local District Registrar.

The religious ceremony can take place at any location acceptable to you and the Minister. So, you could utilise the elegantly furnished Nevis View Room with panoramic views of the Nevis Range as your stunning background - or, weather permitting, you could hold the service on the terrace which has equally expansive views.

The Civil Marriage Ceremony would take place in the Nevis View Room as the local District Registrar has approved this room as a suitable place for such ceremonies.

Most couples choose to have the wedding indoors, in which case we can arrange seating 'pew style' and we can lay a red carpet down the centre of the seating areas. After the ceremony, we provide a desk for the signing of the register.

In either case forms are required to be submitted to the local Registration Office. You can obtain these forms from any Registration Office in Scotland or download them from the Registrar's Highland Weddings website. We suggest you look at this site where you can read all about how you can get married in Scotland and the legal requirements.

In summary, you should start planning this as early as possible, check with us to make sure we have the venue available, check with the Minister (for religious ceremonies) or check with the District Registrar (for Civil ceremonies) to make sure they are available. The forms, marriage notice, accompanied by the relevant documents (all of which are detailed on the Highland Weddings website), should be submitted to the District Registrar 6 weeks prior to the wedding day.

The Minister

This is a very personal choice and if you are considering having your ceremony conducted by a local Minister, we suggest you call them first to ensure they are available on the day of your choice. May and September are the two most popular months for weddings. Ministers do get booked up well in advance. There are three Ministers in our area who have conducted marriages at Glenspean Lodge in the past and all come highly recommended.

The Piper

In keeping with the local Highland tradition, we can arrange a piper to pipe you into the room for the wedding service. The Piper in the Scottish Clan System was a very important person; in times of joy or on special occasions the music of the pipes was an essential. The Highland Wedding is a joyous and exciting occasion and always has a piper in Number One Full Highland dress to make the occasion all the more special and memorable by adding colour and sound to the perfect day.

Flowers

If you require the room and/or the tables to be decorated with appropriate flowers, we can arrange this for you. Alternatively we can give you the names of local florists so that you can make arrangements directly. Flowers can be arranged for the Bride (wedding bouquet), bridesmaids, Groom and groomsmen. We can also liase with the florist if you would like the room suitably decorated. Flowers are normally delivered the day before the event and we keep them safe and fresh.

After the ceremony

Of course, not all our Wedding Couples get married actually at Glenspean Lodge. Many also are married at nearby venues or churches of various denominations.

Whether you are having the ceremony elsewhere or at Glenspean, we can arrange welcome drinks or celebratory drinks to be served to your guests in the Mackintosh Lounge Bar before the wedding dinner or buffet is served. During this time, the bridal party can have photographs taken. Glenspean Lodge is a superb backdrop for such events and our Wedding Couples have photos to admire and treasure for life.

The Wedding Reception (Dinner)

The Wedding Reception could be table service, or if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, buffet style. Generally, we can cater up for up to 85 in the restaurant. On the other hand, the room is designed in order to provide for much smaller numbers and still feel very comfortable. Table seating is normally in groups of 4 or 6, or of course traditional horseshoe seating can be arranged and a top table for the bridal party.

The Wedding Menu

We have various menus, all priced per person, for you to choose from. We pride ourselves in only using fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably locally produced foods all prepared by our excellent Chef. We can also cater for vegetarians and other special meals if required. Menus are updated seasonally with an emphasis on local dishes with an international appeal. Please use the Enquiry Form or call us to request a wedding pack for full information. We can provide you with a selection of wedding cake designs for you to choose from. Alternatively, you can select your own and we can co-ordinate with you delivery to Glenspean Lodge on the day before the ceremony. For the actual cutting of the cake ceremony, we would, of course, provide the cake stand and a knife. However, most Brides do prefer to provide their own special 'engraved cake knife'.

Entertainment

Evening entertainment can also be catered for, be it a band, disco, or the traditional Highland Ceilidh band, which can incorporate a wide variety of music to suit all tastes and ages. If you tell us more about your requirements we can help you in selecting entertainment for the event.

Refreshments

We offer a fine selection of wines, spirits, fresh juices and soft drinks. If there are any particular wines or refreshments not on our current list, we would be happy to investigate the possibility of supplying them.

Photographs

Glenspean Lodge is an ideal venue for wedding photographs. The back-drop views and beautifully laid out Nevis Range restaurant are, we believe, one of the most perfect places for your photographic memento of this important occasion. We do have a list of local photographers whom previous guests have used and have reported that they have been very happy.

Highland Dress

Everyone can wear highland dress

If you want to go really Highland, then men often choose Highland dress with the Groom, Best Man and Pageboys in the same tartan. We can suggest suitable outfitters if required.

Car parking

We are fortunate to have a main car park and a second overflow car park, so we can accommodate large parties. We would arrange reserved parking for the bridal party and guests. Please go to the Enquiry Form page to make a booking or to request further information.
